Aylesbury Paedophile Ring: Justice For Victims of Sexual Abuse

On 24 July 2015 six men were found guilty of various sexual offences against two school girls from Aylesbury. The criminal trial may be over, but it is never over for the victims of child sexual abuse.

Treatment and support for the victims of sexual abuse

Whilst the statutory services support the victims, the reality is that the NHS does not have the resources to adequately treat the victims, in order to maximise their recovery from the terrible abuse meted out over years.

Unless those victims have deep pockets, they should make a claim for compensation. With compensation they can receive full redress, and fund private treatment to help them rebuild their lives. The sooner such action is taken, the better.

The NSPCC shares the view that there is a need to ensure “the victims receive all the support and therapy they need to recover.”

Although Investigating Officer, Supt Gill Wootton said, “We will continue to support the two victims in this case…” the reality is that the job of the police is done and other services will support. However, experience illustrates the NHS is simply poorly equipped to address the mental health issues arising from child abuse, and the specialist ongoing care required can only be funded through compensation.

The child abuse victims will be able to obtain compensation because they are innocent victims of a crime. They will also be able to obtain compensation from those who were responsible for failing to protect them.

One cannot argue with the statement of the former Mayor, Niknam Hussain, that “They (the local authority services) have not come out of this at all well.” I concur with the former Mayor who says the authorities are under severe pressure, with social workers struggling. To this, the solution is simple: deliver proper investment so that Buckinghamshire County Council – and all authorities across the country – have adequate funds to recruit and retain highly skilled social workers.

The NSPCC has added its voice to the demand for better child protection. Their spokesperson described this as “yet another shocking case of vulnerable young girls being targeted by ruthless gangs of men…… We must continue to clamp down on organised grooming.”

The Offenders and Offences

Prosecutor Oliver Saxby QC described the two school girls as being “easy prey for a group of men wanting casual sexual gratification that was easy, regular and readily available. The girls were showered with gifts, being groomed with alcohol, food, drugs and DVDs. This was exciting to young school girls who described being passed around the men.

The following men were convicted:

• Vikram Singh, 45, of Cannock Road, Aylesbury, was found guilty of four counts of rape and one of administering a substance with intent
• Asif Hussain, 33, of Hodge Lea, Milton Keynes, was convicted of three counts of rape
• Arshad Jani, 33, of Cousins Drive, Aylesbury, was found guilty of rape and conspiracy to rape
• Mohammed Imran, 38, of Springcliffe Street, Bradford, was convicted of three counts of rape, one count of conspiracy to rape and one count of child prostitution
• Akbari Khan, 36, of Mandeville Road, Aylesbury, was found guilty of two counts of rape, one of administering a substance with intent and conspiracy to rape
• Taimoor Khan, 29, of Highbridge Road, Aylesbury, was convicted of one count of sexual activity with a child

Conclusion

This is a sad case, but not unique, as we have seen, for example in Rotherham and Oxford. Children will continue to be sexually exploited and suffer considerable harm. Those responsible for protecting our children need to do more to keep up with the sexual predators. Victims they must be given better support and pointed in the direction of all those who can play a part in meeting their short and long-term needs.
