Caroline Cowley
Caroline joined IBB Law following a merger with Owen White Solicitors in January 2023.
Caroline led the Property Disputes Team at Owen White and regularly advises developers, letting agencies, Registered Providers of Social Housing and Local Authorities on all aspects of property, development and land contract disputes, housing and leasehold management and landlord and tenant work.
Caroline is an outstanding commercial litigator and negotiator with experience in advising on disputes involving development agreements, construction contracts, land contracts, overage claims, Section 106 Agreements and property customer care issues. She is an experienced and regular Court advocate.
Caroline also acts on all aspects of housing and leasehold management and is a founding member of the Social Housing Law Association (SHLA). She regularly drafts and advises on tenancy agreements and nomination agreements as well as policies and procedures.
Caroline speaks and presents at legal conferences and delivers seminars and training.
Over the last couple of years Caroline has been involved in a number of important cases including a Court of Appeal decision on Debt Relief Orders in possession claims.
Caroline is highly regarded and has been recognised by the Chambers Guide to the Legal Profession as a ‘Leader in her field’ and described as “knowledgeable in all aspects of tenancy enforcement”. Her clients are also quick to praise her “general helpfulness and approachability”.
Recent Client Work
- Successfully negotiated the settlement of a multi-million-pound dispute relating to the interpretation of an option agreement.
- Advising and negotiating settlement on behalf of a large national house builder in respect of a dispute over the calculation of an overage payment in a land contract relating to a significant development.
- Sharples v Places for People Homes Ltd and Godfrey v A2Dominion Homes Ltd – Acted for social housing provider on a landmark conjoined Court of Appeal case
