My route from law degree to Trainee Solicitor
My route from law degree to Trainee Solicitor
I applied to IBB Law for a Legal Administrator role, a couple of weeks after I finished University in May 2019. After my interview, I was delighted to find out I had been given the role, which was to commence in the August. Concurrently, I decided to enrol myself on the part time LLM (Masters in Laws) course, so that I could continue my studies on the weekends, alongside work.
In August 2020, a paralegal role vacancy became available in the divorce and finance team and wanting to progress to a fee earning role, I went for it and was successful. I received a huge amount of support from the partners in the team which gave me the necessary foundations to learn and improve. I was extremely happy to find out that after just one year, my workplace journey at IBB was evolving and I was being put forward for a Training Contract to start in September 2022. However, this was brought forward and having achieved a distinction in my LLM and I am due to start at the end of March.
I am so grateful to work for a firm who recognises hard work and encourages progression. I am thoroughly excited to continue my legal career at IBB.
Jolene Hutchison Head of Family says:
“Very quickly we recognised that [trainee] was eager to learn, able to accept constructive feedback and above all was a great team member. We value fit at IBB and although academic achievement is extremely important, we think very carefully about the dynamics when placing someone new in the team. She fitted in instantly. She works hard, is dependable and is great with the clients. We are very excited to be supporting her career and we hope she wants to be a Family Law Solicitor at the end of her training”.
