Surge in BBC sex discrimination cases
Over the past two years the number of sex discrimination cases made against broadcaster the BBC has quadrupled, figures have revealed.
The Daily Telegraph has reported that 12 women brought sex discrimination claims against the broadcaster last year, after information was revealed under the Freedom of Information Act.
In the previous year there were nine cases and there were three the year before that. In the past three years there have been three cases of ageism brought against the BBC.
Information on how many of the women received payouts was not revealed by the BBC.
A corporation spokesman said: "The BBC takes its responsibilities as a fair employer very seriously. Employing over 17,000 people means that on occasion there will be cases such as this but over the course of three years this represents a very small proportion of our workforce."
