Protests Over Legal Aid Cuts Spread
Roadblock demonstrations are planned across the country amid attempts to cut legal aid. UK Uncut, the leading direct action group, is staging weekend protests against the Government’s proposals. The group says the actions will be disruptive. The coalition’s reforms have come under increasing criticism, which has already led to some changes. However demonstrations are still planned for London, Cambridge, Northampton, Norwich, Liverpool, Manchester and Hull. Spokesman for UK Uncut, Jim Thompson, said legal aid was being “destroyed” and that this would make justice accessible only to those who can afford to pay for it.
“We know that our roadblocks for justice protests will be disruptive. We know that they will stop the traffic. But we also know that this kind of direct action works to make the Government take notice,” said Mr Thompson.
