Plans for new supermarket near Hayes
Budget supermarket chain Aldi is planning to open a new store on the outskirts of Hayes, although construction is still subject to planning permission.
The German firm, which currently has a portfolio of more than 400 stores nationwide, is in the process of carrying out final site assessments to support the planning application.
Vacant land within the Grand Union Village housing complex off Broadmead Road in Northolt, sitting on the Ealing/Hillingdon border, is earmarked as the potential location for the new store. The land was first intended for a sports centre, which formed part of the major mixed use development of the 54-acre site back in 2001. Over 700 homes, offices and amenities were built under the plan, but no one has come forward to build the leisure centre. Aldi’s store would be one storey, although it would have a smaller footprint than the leisure centre first proposed.
The discount grocer wants to invest in more stores this year and hopes to create 4,500 new jobs in the process.
