New Guidance On Settlement Agreements Published
Employment relations body Acas has published new guidance to complement its new code of practice on settlement agreements which was introduced this week. Settlement agreements are used to mutually terminate an employment relationship. Acas’ new guidance aims to help employers and workers recognise when and how the legally binding contracts should be used. If you want expert advice on settlement agreements and employment law, speak to employment law solicitors in London.
Guidance Includes Sample Settlement Agreement
Employers and employees will be given checklists, a model agreement, template offer letters, and examples of how employment settlement agreements could be used. The guidance also highlights what is deemed improper behaviour when negotiating settlement agreements. “The new guidance, which has been approved by the Acas Council, is designed to provide practical and straightforward advice on the use of settlement agreements,” said Acas chair Ed Sweeney. “Settlement agreements are one tool that can be used to deal with workplace problems. They can be used to facilitate the end of an employment relationship where both parties agree to the use of one.” Settlement Agreements: A Guide and more information on the code of practice can be found on Acas’ website. The code is considered by employment tribunals when judging cases. Our Employment team provides advice on the employment aspects of all major business decisions including settlement agreements.
