EDF nominates lawyer amid dispute
EDF of France has nominated a Canadian lawyer with a tough reputation to the board of US-based Constellation Energy amid its ongoing dispute with the firm.
The firm is exercising its right to nominate one director to the board – set out in an agreement signed in 2008 – by putting forward Samuel Minzberg.
The Montreal-based lawyer has been nominated as a replacement for Daniel Camus after EDF announced on Monday that he would be resigning from Constellation’s board.
Mr Minzberg is known for his time on the board of communications and entertainment conglomerate Vivendi – which teetered on the edge of collapse in 2002.
During his time on the board the lawyer slammed former Vivendi chief executive Jean-Marie Messier – who was forced to resign in 2002 after leading the firm through a number of key deals.
EDF holds an 8.4% stake in Constellation and is the firm's largest shareholder.
