Cash Grants to Help Boost Adoption Charities
Cash Grants to Help Boost Adoption Charities
The Government is pledging to provide adoption charities with £16 million to tackle a backlog of youngsters who urgently need new families. There are currently around 4,000 children waiting to be adopted in England but there is a “chronic shortage” of families available to take them and statistics show they are having to wait nearly two years on average to find a permanent home. Some face waits of nearly three years.
Voluntary Adoption Agencies (VAA) across the country will receive the extra money in grants to expand their services and find more families that are keen to adopt. The agencies and charities say the money will help them cut their backlogs. UK adoption charities looking for professional advice on funding and investment opportunities should speak to a charity solicitor. Speaking about the funding boost, Children and Families Minister Edward Timpson said he was no stranger to adoption as he has two adopted brothers himself. He said the futures of more than 4,000 children in care are at stake and the Government intends to do all it can to help them. Mr Timpson said it is giving voluntary adoption organisations a bigger role in finding new parents for the children who desperately need them. The money will be available from later this year until 2016.
