Apprenticeships Highly Recommended by Businesses
Around four in five apprentices and businesses surveyed by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills would recommend apprenticeships to friends or other companies. In addition, 83% of apprentices credited their apprenticeship with improving their job skills and career prospects.
Apprentices for Business favoured over other qualifications
The results of the poll coincide with new figures that indicate more than half of youngsters in England would join an apprenticeship if they had the option. Another study conducted this year found employers would rather give jobs to apprentices than youngsters with other qualifications, with higher apprentices more employable than those with degrees. Business Secretary Vince Cable said the Government has prioritised funding for apprenticeships even at a time when the economy is stretched. “With numbers increasing by more than 80% in the last two years we know they are a popular choice. Today’s survey reinforces this, proving that apprenticeships boost the prospects for both young people and businesses,” he said. Skills Minister Matthew Hancock said: “Apprenticeships are becoming an increasingly attractive option for school leavers who want to forge a successful career by earning while they learn. This research shows why they are good news for both young people and employers.” Our Employment team provides advice on the employment aspects of all major business decisions.
