2.4 children? Not in the 21st century.

2.4 children? Not in the 21st century.

What is a 21st Century Family?  An interesting question posed by Lady Hale, President of the Supreme Court, in her speech at the International Centre for Family Law, Policy and Practice this summer, and one which all family lawyers should be open to considering.

Long gone are the days when the stereotypical family comprised a man, woman and their average of 2.4 biological children.

At IBB we are acutely aware that there are very many different models of families to include: lone parent families, opposite sex married or unmarried parents, same sex married or unmarried parents or civil partners, children who live with extended family members under, for example, Special Guardianship Orders, step-children, adopted children and children born through surrogacy and assisted reproduction.

We are also conscious that every family’s circumstances are different and therefore require advice tailored to their own needs.

Family law can be very complex.  It has come a long way but has still got some catching up to do particularly in relation to cohabitees, no fault divorce, surrogacy and domestic abuse.

We have a team of experts who will steer you through any aspects of family law whether that be in relation to the creation of family or, alternatively, in the event of family breakdown and dispute.
